A Special Day
Myra purchased tix yesterday online for the Mistico Hanging Bridges near La Fortuna. Google maps indicated the distance as a 40-minute drive. We hoped a reasonable contingency would be to leave an hour ahead of time. We ended up with 10 minutes to spare. Lots and lots of rain. There is an extravagant 10cm shoulder on the highways here. No guardrails. And one-way bridges around blind corners. Just to name the big differences.
And an improved driving experience...
When Myra and I drive in dense traffic (interpret that as you like) we have some key phrases to get us into traffic flow: "Busy, Window, Clear." Needless to say we trust each other with our lives. Now we've added some new key words: "Gentle turn, Tight turn" (slow down), "Hairpin" (shift-down), and the extreme, "Switchback" (first gear). It's amazing how an extra set of eyes on Waze (or Google Maps) to describe the upcoming turn can help so much! And I'm slowly getting used to driving a standard again. Yes, I have stalled it in traffic, but the propeller-cap I wear while I drive seems to help.
On our walk at the Mistico Hanging Bridges we saw: Motmots, hummingbirds and bats. Tarantula holes all over the place, just don't stick your finger in there. A 2-hour experience that with the misting rain off and on made for a great day.
To finish the day we ended up at the Gingerbread House for dinner. The waitress suggested that unless we were big eaters that a half order to share would be lots. Good advice. A glass of wine at home as a night cap. Officially a senior.
We got a hummingbird feeder hung up right by our patio today. You know they're hovering close by because you can hear a low droning purr of their wings.
Mot mots? Getting lots of bird sounds?
ReplyDeleteWeather still mild! But not as hot as there! Little snow.
Happy Belated Birthday. Wow. That’s quick the driving experience you and Myra had. It looked like almost snow but not quite 🤔. Take care and all the best of the season to you both!
ReplyDeleteYou will be official bird experts for Costa Rica. Wonderful opportunity.
